I think of it as being somewhere between EZ-Drummer and Superior Drummer 3 in terms of complexity, but sound-wise it's right up there. Not nearly as insane to use as Superior Drummer 3 but quite capable and sounds very good. The sound character seems to lean more towards the powerful modern rock spectrum, and is a bit more polished and processed than Addictive or BFD3. Back in the era of Slate's Kontakt libraries it was the fastest way to get that Nirvana type of powerful, fat sound.

Instead of loading individual sounds within a single master kit, you load up kits like "Seventies Drummer" and "Eighties Drummer" to get access to a single style of kit with maybe the option to choose from two sets of drums and an extra two snares or so.

They are pre-mixed very well but you still have control over individual mic positions and processing within the UI. I've used these when I was in a big hurry and didn't want to deal with BFD3, and was always pleasantly surprised at how quick it was to work with and how good the end results sounded.

So if you don't already have "Full Kontakt" which is included in Komplete then that's another expense. But having the full version of Kontakt means you can load zillions of cheap and free Kontakt sounds out there, so it's a great thing to have.
